“The 2010 Haitian earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake. Its epicentre was near Léogâne, approximately 25 km (16 miles) west of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. The earthquake occurred at 16:53 local time (21:53 UTC) on Tuesday, 12 January 2010,at a depth of 13 km (8.1 miles). The United States Geological Survey recorded a series of at least 33 aftershocks, 14 of which were between magnitudes 5.0 and 5.9. The International Red Cross estimated that about three million people were affected by the quake; the Haitian Interior Minister, Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, anticipated on 15 January that the disaster would claim between 100,000 and 200,000 lives.”

Goats for Gold

by Michelle on January 7, 2010

Being a Vancouver based company, the majority of the MakeGood Team members here read the Metro Newspaper.

And what did we see on the front page? GOATS FOR GOLD!!

AWESOME IDEA! Fantastic cause!

(Excerpt from the Metro)

“Joel and Danny Nagtegaal have launched an innovative campaign that combines patriotism and philanthropy, encouraging Canadians to buy a goat for a needy African family for each Gold Medal we win in the Games

The charity is a spinoff of Goat Canucks Goat, which Joel started last spring to buy a goat for each playoff game the Canucks won….Their goal was 16 goats, but they wound up with 1,073.”

Why Goats? (according to CRWRC)

When disasters or conflicts occur, families are often forced to flee, leaving everything. Sometimes they live in camps for years. Once their land is safe again, CRWRC helps the family to return. Unfortunately, all too often the conflict or disaster that destroyed a family’s possessions also destroyed their livelihood. One of the most precious commodities can be livestock. Provide a goat to help a family resettle in their land; give them a head start in rebuilding their lives.

ONLY $34.50/ GOAT!

HELP BY BUYING A GOAT -CLICK HERE

MakeGood will be sure to buy a few goats in February! Goat for the GOLD!

Happy Movember!

by Michelle on November 3, 2009

Movember

We always hear about Breast Cancer awareness (especially in October) and MakeGood is glad that Prostate Cancer has caught up in terms of awareness and publicity. Which is great becuase males should be more aware of “down there” when it comes to health!

Stats show that 1 in 6 males will be affected by prostate cancer and 4,400 Canadian men will die this year from the disease.

What is Movember?

Movember is a charity event that happens in November where men grow their moustaches (lovingly called the ‘mo’) in support of prostate cancer. Family and friends support these men in the form of donations which will go to Prostate Cancer research.

Also, if you want MakeGood to support this cause this month- make sure to vote for them HERE!
